Band History

We Are 1 Somos 1 (We Are One Somos Uno) is a Bilingual Music Collaborative founded by internationally renowned percussionist, composer, producer Carlos Gogo Gomez. Gogo’s vision is to create uplifting dance music in English and Spanish so as to create a bridge between English and Spanish speakers globally. Unity through music is the goal. This collaboration of some of the best musicians of the San Francisco Bay Area brings cultural diversity to bring joy and a positive social impact in our society, but most importantly, we bring booty-shakin’ Urban Latin Pop dance music.

Carlos Gogo Gomez

  • Percussionist & Founder

Carlos Gogo Gomez has performed and recorded with a list of the biggest recording artists of our time. Throughout his career, he has recorded with contemporary megastars such as Earth Wind and Fire, Madonna, Quincy Jones, Mariah Carey, and Sade, and played alongside luminaries like Eartha Kitt, Laura Branigan, Jody Watley, Roy Ayres, Maxwell, Patti Austin, ConFunkShun, Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead), Tito Puente, Malo, Arturo Sandoval, Gipsy Kings, Jose Feliciano, DJ Francois K of Wave Music, DJ David Morales of Def Mix, DJ Jay Denes of Naked Music, and DJ Eric Kupper. With influences from Pop Hits, Salsa, Electronica, Rock and Roll, and Jazz, Gogo’s virtuosity and diversity in his rhythmic influences and use of new technology are his hallmark, evidenced in his performances of diverse instruments and musical genres.

Roxana Damas

  • Singer & Songwriter

Roxana Damas, a San Francisco native, is a versatile performer, singer-songwriter, and advocate recognized as a 2017 U.N. Empower Women Champion for Change. With a diverse background in modeling, acting, public speaking, and entrepreneurship, Roxana has made her mark as an entertainer and community leader. Collaborating with Bay Area icons like Pete Escovedo and James Jae-E Early, she's showcased her talent across various mediums. As a lead singer in bands like Luv-Taxi and through solo performances, Roxana captivates audiences in the U.S. and abroad, sharing stages with renowned artists and opening for acts like Ivy Queen, Crooked Stilo, La Raza Band, and others. Despite facing health challenges from PCOS, she's emerged resilient, channeling her experiences into advocacy work. From singing at prestigious events honoring leaders like Peace Laureate Rigoberta Menchu to headlining productions such as "Andares," Roxana blends artistry with a commitment to social change. A keynote speaker and performer at events like Google's luncheon Latina's Changing the World, she inspires with her passion and positivity. Driven by her Salvadoran heritage, Roxana enthusiastically embraces her return to the stage, spreading joy and embodying resilience, hope, and the transformative power of art.

Earl “Bo” Freeman

  • Bass

Well-traveled musician, born in Texas; homegrown in the local San Francisco Bay Area, Bo's natural ability, the mastery of his style and technique on the bass are evidence of his weighty musical pedigree. Major European tours with Bill Summers, as well as with Don Cherry and Multikulti were just a part of the voyage to new worlds of musical expression for Bo. Bo's versatility has lit up stages performing with Peter Apfelbaum and the Hieroglyphic Ensemble, Coke, Pete, and Sheila Escovedo, The Freaky Executives, Abel Zarate from the band Malo, as well as Strictly Roots just to name a few. World beat, Latin, R&B, Reggae, funk, you name it, Bo is a multi-talented artist of all genres, be it bass, keyboards.

Peter Fujii

  • Guitar

Hailing from Detroit but nurtured in the cultural mix of the San Francisco Bay Area, Peter Fujii, the extraordinary guitarist, embodies a delightful medley of musical influences. With a diverse background spanning Blues, Jazz, Rock, Latin, African, Classical, and the distinctive Oaktown funk, his music seamlessly fuses and transcends traditional genre boundaries. Now Peter Fujii hopes that this kind of world fusion will help bring the hearts and minds of people together. Mr. Fujii has been blessed to work with: Estter Phillips, Pharaoh Sanders, Hank Crawford, Steve Ferrone, David Garribaldi, Hilton Ruiz, Giovanni Hidalgo, Sikiru Adupoju, James Levi, Rusty Allen, Dramatics, Chris Isaac, producer Quincy Jones, Bernard Edwards, George Lucas, Thomas Dolby, and on the 'Howard the Duck' movie just to name a few.

Richelle Scales

  • Keyboards

Richelle Scales is a classically trained pianist with a love and passion for all styles of music. Since the age of 5, Richelle has developed an intricate relationship with the 88s, and as the instrument of choice, uses the piano to express her love for Afrobeat, Hip Hop, Classical, Rock n Roll, Reggae, and just downright jammin'. Richelle has been the opening act for several artists including Gil Scott Heron, Robert Glasper, Musiq Soulchild, and Klymaxx.
